Gators won't forget 2011, have momentum heading into 2012: "Now, I don’t want you to forget one thing about this season. I don’t want you to forget about the tough times. I don’t want you to forget about the frustrations. I don’t want you to forget about any of those times as moments." That's very Eric Taylor of you, Will Muschamp. (Scott Carter, GatorZone)
Was Urban Meyer at the Gator Bowl? Sharrif Floyd thinks so: "I know he was in the booth. I talked to a couple of their players that I know, so I knew he was here all week. Again, I’m happy for him. He’s making the best decision for him and his family and good luck to him." (Rachel George, Swamp Things/Orlando Sentinel)
Florida defense getting hungry: "We want to prove we're one of those top defenses in the country [next season]," Bostic said. "We know it starts now. We're not going to wait till the summer time or wait until next fall in two-a-days." (Scott Carter, GatorZone)
Special teams star: Is this this last Chris Rainey quote we're likely to get? (Chris Harry, GatorZone)
"I’d say I got it," Patton said. "But I think Rainey would say he did."
Patton was half right.
"It was me," Rainey said.
Meanwhile, in Athens... Another frustrating season's end for the Classic City Canines, which I will admit is a badass nickname. (T. Kyle King, Dawg Sports)
Meanwhile, in Knoxville... Oh, boy, is it getting ugly. (Will Shelton, Rocky Top Talk)
Recruits like their numbers: Note the difference in temperament between Mike Davis and Tracy Howard. (Tom Bergeron, Rivals High)
Speaking of Davis: He confirms everything we already knew about why he decommitted. (Michael Carvell, College Recruiting/Atlanta Journal-Constitution)
Columnist overreacts to corruption in sports for 50-11th time: Next time you get upset about me being more liberal/progressive/"politically correct" than you, remember that Zirin writes things like "indentured servitude masquerading as sport." (Dave Zirin, Edge of Sports)

I’ve always chuckled when the folks at DawgSports refer to us as the Sunshine State Saurians. It is just a brilliant nickname and much more intelligent than FSU saying “Gates” or Crocs" all the time.

What about when people call us
The Florida Gaytors? haha
Dave Theriault - January 3, 2012
That's just stupid.
BTW: New commenting policy this week. Get excited!
Andy Hutchins - January 3, 2012
I'm excited!
Hopefully it’s “every comment needs a subject line,” right FlaGators?
doker - January 3, 2012
Ha.
Think about it. Subject line, or is it just a continuation of a sentence? So it should be “Beginning of Sentence line” … makes no sense, is more work, and makes pages look choppy with random bold words all over the place.

quit your whining
ya hippy
ECFIVESTER - January 3, 2012
This is honestly, the first time in my life, that I’ve ever been called a happy. Even jokingly.
FlaGators - January 3, 2012
Sad life?
Life is crap brand maybe for you then …
I got one for Christmas … don’t know what that says about me or the giver …
ECFIVESTER - January 3, 2012
Nah, you’re good. I’d say giver.
FlaGators - January 3, 2012
Haha, yeah …. those people probably have a complex or something like that.
FlaGators - January 3, 2012
Dude- we got #1 ready for you Kevon…all day long!
skigator93 - January 3, 2012
Reading the Rivals article
I’m glad Mike Davis bounced, he sounds like some smug ass recruit Urban Meyer would get. Tracy Howard on the other hand, he sounds like a Will Muschamp guy, I say make him your biggest priority in recruiting. Everything he said was perfect, love that mindset in an athlete. Florida needs guys who have a chip on their shoulder and want to work hard for everything they earn.
Dave Theriault - January 3, 2012
Give #1 to Debose.
He deserves it.
doker - January 3, 2012
I've heard of this #1 thing before
but I’ve never seen it in print or a gator program as a tradition … Can anyone else verify that?
ECFIVESTER - January 3, 2012
It's been a tradition for a while
that #1 belongs to the best playmaker on the team. Reggie Nelson, Percy Harvin, Janoris Jenkins, and most recently Chris Rainey. It usually goes to juniors or seniors who have already established themselves, and they will consequently have their old number changed.
I’m not totally sure how it is determined who gets to wear #1, but my guess is that it’s a players or coaches vote, much like how team captaincy is worked out.
It seems to be more of an unwritten tradition though, so I doubt you’ll find much documentation of it.
JGator45 - January 3, 2012
Tony George!
FlaGators - January 3, 2012
thanks
I was trying to think back before Reggie … but couldn’t remember.
ECFIVESTER - January 3, 2012
Keiwan Ratliff
skigator93 - January 4, 2012
oh yeah let's not forget the great
Kyle Morris!
skigator93 - January 4, 2012
Jack Jackson
nice catch from Anthony here
skigator93 - January 4, 2012
Its a tradition that goes back to pee-wee football
I dont even think theres a vote or any of that. Someone leaves and then someone asks for it. The people who ask for it, are typically the people who have always had it growing up. I doubt a true freshman will get that number, somebody will take it just so they dont get it. I would.
Hook85 - January 4, 2012
I heard that Charlie Weis had promised Kent Taylor #1.
We’ll see how that works out.
JGator45 - January 3, 2012
Oh so you can't have your precious number Davis ... Davis, you know what is sad? You are!
Go walk on over to Mamby Pamby land and find some self confidence ya jack wagon!

Tissue?
ECFIVESTER - January 3, 2012
One of the greatest commercials of all-time.
FlaGators - January 3, 2012
Top 10
especially of the non super bowl commercial. Of course those have gone flat lately …
ECFIVESTER - January 3, 2012
