Scout.com's Bob Redman is reporting that Florida has found its next offensive coordinator. Redman, citing sources, says that Brent Pease is expected to be named Florida's offensive coordinator "in the very near future," leaving the Boise State family he has been a part of since 2006 and the Broncos offense he was in charge of as the offensive coordinator under Chris Petersen in 2010 to run Will Muschamp's offense at Florida.
We heard this story, sort of, on Friday, when the Gainesville Sun's Pat Dooley kinda sorta said that Pease was Florida's man, but other reports over the weekend had Pease deciding between Florida and Alabama.
My guess: If news is leaking now and Pease's supposed meeting with Alabama's Nick Saban was coming on Tuesday, Pease has likely already verbally agreed to a deal with Florida, and the GatorZone staff is writing up its features on him for Tuesday as I type. (Redman writes that it is unlikely Pease will have that meeting.)
If so, I think it's a wonderful hire for Muschamp, and look forward to explaining why to all of you — and I'll point out that Florida beat the national champions for something on Monday.

Nice
I like it. I think Pease will be a good fit for us.
Gatorbuc15 - January 10, 2012
If he can replicate that surgical destruction of UGA...
I’ll love him forever.
I think it’s a good hire. It’s not flashy like many people wanted, but he’s not an NFL dud like we were all dreading.
Troll2Troll - January 10, 2012
Bingo. I think we’re all tired of the “splash” hire anyway. We just want someone who is going to put in some work, teach/develop some players (and coaches for that matter … like replacements for himself) and get things done.

ECFIVESTER - January 10, 2012
Although not flashy he knows when to throw the change up. That seems to be the problem with NFL coordinators, they are always too conservative for their own good.
Tractorr - January 10, 2012
Good solid hire.
He is a lot of things Florida fans want and even more of what we need.
It seems everyone has been asking for a non-NFL washout hire at OC who has a track record of play calling that is a few things. 1) Not repeated dive plays or options with a non-Tebow QB, 2) Has experience on a big stage, and 3) a name that a program like Florida should be pulling in.
Now I know Boise State does not play week in and week out the caliber of teams that are in the SEC but there are only 14 of those jobs. What he has done is help build a gameplan to beat the big schools he gets the opportunity to face, be it Oklahoma, Georgia, Oregon etc. I think he is inventive enough while staying within the Pro-style that he can do even more with the caliber of player he will have at his disposal at Florida than he could at Boise.
As for the Kerwin Bell supporters, he needs to get into a job at a much higher level before he can be thought about for the Florida OC position, that is just the way the world works.
Hopefully moving forward Muschamp can take his new fancy toy and parade him and his playbook in front of all those recruits that are considering Florida and get some big names in the last few weeks before signing day.
FColosi - January 10, 2012
Exactly. We need some extra help on the offensive side of the ball.
FlaGators - January 10, 2012
Florida's 2011 defense, with Boise's 2011 offense
could have beaten either of the teams in that sorry excuse for a national championship last night.
doker - January 10, 2012
Pease isn't the architect of the Boise offense
but he just spent 5 seasons learning under one of the best offensive minds in college football and he nailed his audition this year. He’s more likely to develop one of the Gators’ freshmen QBs next year, rather than by the time they are seniors, giving Florida a better chance of winning now and saving Muschamp’s ass. Plus, even though there’s probably only 11 recruits in the country who know who Pease is, everyone knows who the Broncos are.
Chekhov's Spread Gun Option - January 10, 2012
I don’t like the hire personally. BUT, If a Coach at a Non-BCS school is good enough to QUIT his job before having another one because he knows he will get a job at the school that is the National Champion or the school that has won 2 National Championships over the last 6 years then something must be there with this guy.
Gators1 - January 10, 2012
You don't like the hire, but admit that Pease is probably really good?
Who do/did you want?
Andy Hutchins - January 10, 2012
I don’t like bringing on someone that was only a Coordinator for one season at Boise State. I wanted someone with more big time experience and more recruiting experience at a big time school. I know that didn’t work with Weis but Weis has been useless for awhile. But that’s what I was saying….Foley and Bama’s AD must see something there….I don’t see it…But they obviously do.
Gators1 - January 10, 2012
What is there not to see?
Pease isn’t the architect of that Boise O, but he sure did fine job with it when he had it. The guy has been solid everywhere he’s been. I know that we throw out this concept of what we want our coordinators to be, but the reality is that there simply aren’t many options that fit that definition.
Cardsfan25 - January 10, 2012
in fact there are none
if there were a really successful OC somewhere at a major program with a strong resume with tons of recruiting experience – he wouldn’t be in the market for another OC position.
skigator93 - January 10, 2012
Well I do like it over the Schottenheimer idea.
Gators1 - January 10, 2012
absolutely
skigator93 - January 10, 2012
But doesn’t Boise run a spread? I thought we were getting away from that? Also, how did Texas do with that Boise-like offense? 86th in passing yards?
Gators1 - January 10, 2012
Dude
Ya gotta give Pease a chance!
Seriously though, have you seen what Texas has to work with as QB’s? I think we have a bit better shot of making an improvement.
SC-Gator - January 10, 2012
Yeah. I get ya. I got ya.
Gators1 - January 10, 2012
I don’t believe Boise runs a spread
doker - January 10, 2012
I like it
If Bama really wanted him and we got him that’s a win in my book. I’m also glad we have someone in place so we can really go after these recruits that are waiting to see who we would hire… Do you guys think this is a good or bad hire in the recruits minds??
DCGator - January 10, 2012
Good hire for the Boise factor
he’s not a big name by himself, but everyone’s been watching the blue turf for the last seven years, so being able to leverage that is a win.
Chekhov's Spread Gun Option - January 10, 2012
I agree
Hopefully Nelson A. and Diggs feel the same way.
DCGator - January 10, 2012
Bama wanting him is not necessarily a good thing
BECAUSE I DO NOT WANT BAMA’S OFFENSE
doker - January 10, 2012
I just hope
that he brings our offense some pease.
ParadigmShift35 - January 10, 2012
hahaha nice
DCGator - January 10, 2012
great point
because last year our offense was pretty much a pease of crap.

Gatorbuc15 - January 10, 2012
I love the hire but...
I’m not celebrating until I see the anouncement come across the bottom of the screen of ESPN
DustinFLA - January 10, 2012 via mobile
Yeah I’ve been waiting for it and ESPN isn’t saying anything about this… Also I’ve officially decided that Gatorsports.com will not be a site I visit in the future. They are so slow and all the info is out dated. Gator nation is worth the money…
DCGator - January 10, 2012
what a bummer
I don’t know if I could handle watching ESPN all day
doker - January 10, 2012
Yeah I'm off of work today so I've been glued to the tv waitng to hear the announcement
I have’nt ever been to that site, guess I’m not missing anything huh?
DustinFLA - January 10, 2012 via mobile
sh*t meant to do a reply there
DustinFLA - January 10, 2012 via mobile
I used to check it everyday
It’s good for post game reviews and the recruiting section can be good when they update it. I’ve just found that Espn is on their game especially since they currently have two former Gatorsports.com writers working for them.
DCGator - January 10, 2012
Don't forget game photos
Gatorsports has good game photos most of the time too.
Other than that you probably already know the info they are just putting out. The Sentinel and the the Miami Herold seem to be more on top of info than even the paper in G-ville’s own backyard. And the Times Union in Jacksonville is crappier than them … so don’t waste your time on them.
ECFIVESTER - January 10, 2012
I also like Pat Dooley and Robbie Andreu’s columns.
GatorJustin - January 10, 2012 via mobile
I'm a Robbie fan
I like both of those guys except Pat makes Robbie look like his side kick on the post game videos haha
DCGator - January 10, 2012
oh so true
ECFIVESTER - January 10, 2012
Look at Pease’s Wiki page..

Always the most reliable source.

The BOOM M'FER bit is my favorite.
Though that reference really should be cited for a scholarly article on wikipedia.

lmao!
I literally just busted out laughing at my desk! That’s priceless!
DCGator - January 10, 2012
The footnotes at the bottom!
FlaGators - January 10, 2012
Ok…so I am the person that did that. Which is why I linked it. lol
Gators1 - January 10, 2012
Figured it was somebody from Gator Nation. So when is this OC hire going to break out and be on the news I’m beginning to think it’s a rumor…
DCGator - January 10, 2012
Haha. Yeah it was me. And I have no idea. I would think the whole “He isn’t going to meet with Alabama” thing isn’t true, but who knows. Would you turn down the chance to be the OC of the defending National Champions before interviewing for it? I wouldn’t.
Gators1 - January 10, 2012
He would be crazy not to. The only reason I can think he will be at UF is…. At UF he can showcase his offense. At Bama Saban wont let him do that it’s Run first and nothing crazy very conservative offense…
DCGator - January 10, 2012
Haha. I remember when Wikipedia was only around 300,000 articles in English. I was a first semester senior in college (so yes, like fall 2005 … but still) and Wikipedia was just starting to but not really making a name for itself, and this history professor (Colonial Latin America 1601-1825) gave us an assignment.
I’ll never forget it.
It was an assignment on the guano exports of Peru. The professor, made a Wikipedia page, with fake footnotes that lead to his personal school webpage, and did it as a test to see who would use it without checking their sources.
Something like 19 out of the 27 kids in the class got busted. I figured it out at the last second when I was just surfing the web and noticed that the amount that was being exported in a decade didn’t add up.
When he announced what he had done, everyone who turned in a falsely cited paper got an “D” and everyone else who didn’t got an “A” … it was hilarious.
FlaGators - January 10, 2012
Hahaha. That is hilarious. Love me some Wikipedia…It has a great schematic advantage over other sources. See what I did there? ;)
Gators1 - January 10, 2012
Ha. Nicely done.
FlaGators - January 10, 2012
Well…
FlaGators - January 10, 2012
I like the hire, but hasn't this guy had like 3 different jobs in the last 2 months?
Not exactly what I like to hear
Sveet - January 10, 2012
Has anyone checked his FB???
Bc if he changed his employment on FB it’s official!! haha
DCGator - January 10, 2012
Haha, well I looked, but couldn’t find him. The only Brent Pease I could find was some bicycle racer from Georgia.
FlaGators - January 10, 2012
oh well, I’ll just wait for tomorrow when ESPN announces that he is going to BAMA and we are back at square one and recruits start sprinting away from us. If I think for the worst possible outcome I can’t be disappointing haha.
DCGator - January 10, 2012
you know how to suck the life out of a starving puppy don’t you?
ECFIVESTER - January 10, 2012
I really don’t see that happening. Saban is WAYYY to conservative to bring in a Bronco guy.
DCGator - January 10, 2012
No, Saban's trying
he may be too conservative for the Bronco guy to want to go there, though.
Chekhov's Spread Gun Option - January 10, 2012
I’m hoping that when they sit down and start talking X’s and O’s that Peace just starts going on a rampage about trick plays and crazy blocking schemes and Saban says, “Hold on just a minute there bud, you do know this is Alabama and we Run, Run, Pass, TD in that exact order right?” Peace says, " Well thanks but no thanks sir I’ll be leaving now. Oh here’s your trophy back, thanks for letting me hold it throughout the entire interview." Sounds about right… haha
DCGator - January 10, 2012
Haha. True, true…
FlaGators - January 10, 2012
I just got a text from ESPN Insider
Apparently Edward Aschoff, formerly of Gatorsports.com and now with ESPN Florida Nation, is reporting this as confirmed. Just thought everyone would be interested.

FlaGators - January 10, 2012
Guy may be a good or great hire, I don't know.
Other than watching Boise State’s success, I have nothing else to judge him by. My question is how quickly do you think the 2 freshman QBs will adjust to having to learn a new offense? These kids were immersed in the Charlie Weis offense and now must learn new plays, formations, and terminology. Do you believe this will hamper the Florida offense next season?
CurtOFD78 - January 10, 2012
well
based solely on how poorly both of them ran the Charlie Weis offense, I would at least surmise that they are excited to learn something new!
skigator93 - January 10, 2012
I'm not gonna argue with that
CurtOFD78 - January 10, 2012
Poor Debose.
FlaGators - January 10, 2012
Poor Debose? I would think he would be excited about this. Peace loves to throw the ball around.
DCGator - January 11, 2012
But he’s got to learn a new offense. Which to this point, hasn’t been a strong suit of his.
