Carlos Dunlap Arrested For DUI

Remember to drink responsibly kids, especially before the biggest game of your life when you're a key part of the defense. From the Sentinel;

Florida defensive end Carlos Dunlap was arrested at around 3:30 a.m. for driving under the influence after falling asleep at the wheel.

Police found Dunlap, 20 -- a key part of Florida's national title push this week against Alabama -- slumped over in his Chrysler at a complete stop through multiple green-light traffic cycles at the 200 block of Southwest 34th Street, according to the police report.

Officers reached into the car to turn off the ignition while the clutch was still in gear and finally awoke a "very groggy" Dunlap, the report states.

Looks like Florida's depth on the d-line will be tested Saturday. Brandon Spikes playing optometrist is one thing, getting a DUI in a town where it is seen as a scarlet letter is a whole other story. A DUI can actually get you kicked out of school (bolded for emphasis).

Any employee, student, student group, or guest of the university who is found to be in violation of the law or the university alcohol policy shall be subject to disciplinary action by the university and/or federal, state or local authorities...A student found responsible for a violation of the Student Conduct Code will be subject to sanctions which may include one or more of the following penalties as provided in rule 6Cl-4.0162 of the Florida Administrative Code, payment of damages, reprimand, conduct probation, suspension, or expulsion. Sanctions shall be commensurate with the offense and any aggravating and mitigating circumstances.

Before anyone starts thinking about how many games Urban Meyer suspends Dunlap, the UF alcohol code puts the responsibility of punishment on the administration. Since Bernie Machen took over as president, the University has been serious about punishing students for DUI. (Dunlap might have been better off doing what Ronnie Wilson did because of this policy.) Earlier this year, Gators pitcher Stephen Locke was arrested for DUI and kicked off the team. However, the charges were dropped and Locke was brought back. While it worked out well in the end for Locke, it was a look into the athletic department's handling of DUIs. They know that students are either kicked out of school (if found guilty) or willingly sit out a semester (if they have another legal outcome, this tends to happens to kids who can afford a lawyer). There is no point in keeping a kid around if Machen is going to throw him out.

Dunlap has been released from Alachua County Jail, but he may be facing a release from the University.

what the chances he actually plays?

Lets say the report is correct, is there any chance Urban allows him to play? Just wondering, cause there those who feel Urban will find a way for him to play.

University policy won’t let him play. Dunlap could be kicked out of school.

Sure, there are those who feel that, but they’re a-holes who think Urban is some kind of amoral creep. They’re wrong.

He won’t play on Saturday.

So dumb.

For the Love of God

What normal person goes out drinking on a Monday night? Let alone a 20 year old who is supposed to be preparing for the biggest game in the history of the SEC?!? Call a cab people.

Idiot.

You guys...

still have many great players. Probably none the caliber of Dunlap can take his place, but there shouldn’t be that significant of a dropoff from 1 to 2. It’s obviously a blow, but I don’t think it will hurt too much. Kids will be dumb kids sometimes.

NFL top-10 pick will always have a big drop off.
If your a glass half full

kind of guy that one way of looking at it.

But a realist would know Dunlap brought on double teams all game to open up lanes for the LB’s and other DL, so inserting Trattau may not be a huge drop off in prudction at that postition. But the entire Defensive front will have to work a lil bit harder. Also taking away one of college footballs premier pass rusher is HUGE, in a game where one sack, tipped pass, or blocked kick could mean the game.

Hopefully someone will step up and fill in his shoes, like he did last year as a freshmen.

this hurts our depth more than anything else

we will be fine though, the last four games we have been playing our 2’s and 3’s a lot more so they will be ready.

Suspension Update

Meyer says Dunlap will be suspended for the first half of the Alabama game.

LOL Totally got me!
your memes

are as dated as your jorts :) He’s eligible to turn pro, making him at least a junior, yet he still isn’t 21? Seriously though, does this hurt Fla more or less than the Harvin loss last year or is that comparing apples to oranges? I know that moron Kiper had him at like 3 on his Big Board last I checked, but is he as important as Haden and Spikes?

There is enough depth to manage on the d-line, but Dunlap has been very good this season. The backups (Duke Lemmens, Justin Trattou, William Green) are good, but Florida will miss Dunlap’s size (6-foot-6). Actually, the backups are as good as Dunlap was last season, so the line may seem very similar to the one in the 2008 SEC Champ game.

dunlap is an awesome talent but

the coaches have had a hard time getting him to go as hard as he can. he has a history of taking plays off. i believe he has graded champion only one or two times and our d-line coach mentioned before that the MSU game was the first game all year that he felt like dunlap played as hard as he could. he is not a real team player, just what we needed, another distraction.

He's been very good this year, but considering Alabama's strengths,

this could be much worse. Dunlap’s main role has always been as a pass-rusher and -deflector (7 sacks, 6 passes broken up this year). He’s not really as much of a run-stuffer. If this had been Marsh/Hunter, or any of our LBs (AJ Jones is already out), I’d be much more worried. Now, if the Gators manage to get by Bama and face Texas, I think this loss would hurt much worse, so it’ll be interesting to see what his punishment is.

I think scheme is going to be more important than any individual player on Saturday (basically, if UF can stop the run they should win), but there’s no question losing Dunlap is a negative. That said, we’ve seen all season long that the hallmark of the UF defense has been its outrageous depth (22 deep returning from last year’s team), and I expect them to compensate for Carlos’s stupidity.

.

We'll miss Dunlap's level of talent

BUT….

I don’t want anyone out there this Saturday who is focused on anything this week other than beating Alabama. Apparently Dunlap was focused on Monday night drinking and acting reckless and irresponsibly. Put in someone who is focused on this game.

thanks guys for responding intelligently to my inquiry

and not just posting a picture of a troll, here’s to an epic injury-free battle this weekend!

Haden and Spikes

would be worse, Spikes is our vocal leader. Haden is a shut down corner, who will most likely make Julio Jone wish he called out sick. Dunlap is not on that level, but he did make it easier for the other guys, being he took on double teams all game.

Merry Christmas, Alabama

Your yearly present from the state of Florida. I wonder who it will be for next year’s championship.

As long as we can all agree that it will be Florida and 'Bama again in '10.

You will be without Tebow next year. :)

even without Tebow

I think Brantley allows us to compete with the likes of UGA, UT and Carolina just fine.

Without Tebow

Hell, you’ll be without Saban if someone offers him 20 cents more.

Um, no

If money is an issue, ’Bama will give him more, just like Florida would with Meyer. You fail.

He should be released from the team.

Anytime a football player puts citizens in danger, they receive nothing less than removed from the team.

in danger like this*, they should receive*

jeez… lol

Thank you, fan of the most dirty, rogue, cheating program in recent memory,

for your thougtful and cogent analysis of the situation.

Seriously, how our a** taste?

Recent Memory

"It boils down to one of two things: It's either the horses or the jockeys. And we think we have some pretty good horses."

Another Semi-hole to thank for gracing our board with such insightful blather.
Impressive showing last Friday, especially against our 2nd and 3rd string D. How does it feel to have the 4th best team in the state?

Seminole fans are still here?

I thought we got rid of you guys on Saturday….someone must have left the back gate unlocked again…..

Don’t you guys have some blabbering to do about your ex coach?

It is more rejoicing

UF should be more dissappointed in the decision than FSU

So our players being arrested, suspended and dismissed is a disgrace

But when UF does it, it just blather and should be overlooked because of their success

Gotcha

You can do that when you win the Championship

not when you play mediocre football in a lesser division.

Nole comment

Make sure your own porch is clean before you start sweeping someone else’s. I can’t believe you had the nads to come out from under the refridgerater after the ass whooping ya’ll got Saturday.

When you pass out at the wheel..at a red light...there's not a lot of fighting you can do to get it overturned. Guilty as charged....
Oh and here come our friends from the Big State of Texas.....

Already looking for an angle to cripple a potential BCSCG opponent because they know that Texas can’t compete with UF or Bama full strength.

Obviously spoken by someone who doesn’t know what circumstantial evidence means.

As a Texas fan we have no room to talk...

we have had two players arrested on DWI charges this year. Those players have been suspended until the conclusion of the judicial process. We also had a slew of arrests in 2007. However, if Dunlap plays I think at least DJ Monroe should be reinstated.

Geez Carlos

You don’t think that any student at UF would’ve taken you home? Shoulda called me, I woulda come right over and picked you up.

What an idiot.

Enjoy the NFL, Carlos.

That’s unfortunate for Carlos, good luck this weekend Gators.

That’s unfortunate for Carlos

Thanks for the luck, but lets give the guy any pitty, he made his bed…

AHHH IM SO ANGRY!

A DUI! A DUI! A DUI!

Come on man. pethetic, I hope he loses millions of dollars because of this.

I work in North Charleston, where he is from, ever since he was recruited I have praised how great he is, now I just feel dumb. I havent even read the comments from the Gator Haters yet, but this year we cant get clear of this crap!

Kick him off the team for stupidity.

Dunlap

As pissed as I am at Carlos for his unmitigated stupidity, I still have some pity for him. I did not find that pity for the first few hours and then I thought about him having to face Spikes, Tebow, Meyer etc. and his own family. He has damaged his reputation and hurt a lot of people with one dumb-ass move but in the end, it’s he that will shoulder the burden. I remember many years ago when Bama was playing in the Sugar Bowl and Bear Bryant had two starting players miss curfew the night before the game. He benched them for the entire game and when asked if he planned further action against them he replied “no, we’ll just let them go to their barbershop next Saturday and explain to the men why they did not play in the big game”. It doesn’t carry the same weight today but damn, it was powerful at the time

why do they call it common sense when it's so uncommon
We drive on parkways...

…and park on driveways.

No Pity

He put himself before the team.

I don’t think it will really harm him financially though- it’s not like this will keep him out of the NFL or teams won’t draft him because he got a DUI.

Agreed

Percy admitted to the ganga but everything worked out fine for him and as long as you perform in the Pros nobody cares

and who gives a shit about smoking a little weed?

Its less harmful than alcohol

Ugh

Stupid stupid decsion on his part
