SEC Power Poll, Week Five

Poll_medium

My SEC Power Poll ballot. Final results at Team Speed Kills on Wednesday.

1. Alabama: Hell yes I'm sticking with Bama up top. Do you really think I'd consider jinxing the Gators this week?

2. Florida: Florida is in the same spot as last week in that we don't know if Tebow will play Saturday. I think it is 50/50.

3. LSU: Forget the win against UGA, how do LSU fans get the cell numbers of UF players every year? Maybe those crazy Cajun people can talk to the CIA about their skills and we can find some terrorists.

4. Auburn: The Tigers lead the SEC with +8 turnover margin. That's why they are undefeated.

5. South Carolina: The Gamecocks are second in the league with 14 sacks. That dominant defense in Gainesville has half as many.

6. Georgia: A.J. Green has four consecutive games with a TD catch and three consecutive with 19+ yards per catch.

7. Ole Miss: Sorry Rebels, Aubie is the new flavor of the month.

8. Tennessee: If the Vols had an average quarterback, would their only loss be to UF? Also, doesn't it seem like Eric Berry gets lit up at least once in every game, or am I just imagining things?

9. Arkansas: Their game this week against Auburn should be entertaining as neither have a tremendous defense. But Auburn should have just enough defense to prevcent it from being "last to score wins."

10. Miss State: After allowing 42 points to Georgia Tech's 19th Century offense, the Bulldogs get Houston and passing every down Saturday. Rough schedule.

11. Kentucky: Yup, almost killing Tebow will be their highlight.

12. Vanderbilt: I took these guys +9.5 vs. Ole Miss. I was lost because I forgot Vandy has no offense.

Jinxes be damned

I was formerly in the camp thinking that Bama was better than Florida, but now that they both have a common opponent in the Wildcats, I think it’s safe to say that Florida is still #1. Besides, as I saw somewhere on the interwebs (don’t remember exactly where), Florida shouldn’t loose their spot due to injury.

Bama

How anybody says Bama has the best defense in the SEC needs to look at the stats, both UF and Bama the two best teams in the SEC have played Kentucky, UF allowed 7 points, Bama’s stout defense allowed 20. And in the season so far, Bama has given up more touchdowns an points than UF’s defense has, ya Bama played Va Tech, but after that game who have they played, after Va Tech Bama has played a schedule similar to UF’s in ease, UF has allowed less points and touchdowns than Bama. Plus looking at the similar opponent in UK, Bama won 38-20, UF won 41-7, and UF didn’t even score in the 2nd and 3rd quarters. And from the looks of it, South Carolina has a better defense than both in terms of sacks, overall UF most likely will have the best defense in the SEC or close to it probably behind UT’s because Monte Kiffin is a genius at coaching a defense (the 2002 Bucs defense is one of the best in NFL history, up there with the 2000 Ravens, and the Vikings defenses of the 70’s the purple people eaters) and if ha can do that he can coach up a number 1 defense in the SEC.

Eric Berry gave up on actually tackling people vs. AU sometime in the 3rd Q

UT’s defense was worn out, and Berry started just flying into people rather than wrapping up. It works just as well (for him at least), but it does expose him to getting lit up.

UF’s defense and running game is significantly better than Bama’s. The stats are there, and if you actually watch the games, UF appears to be the better team. Bama is incredibly consistent, though, where UF can be very mercurial. ASeaofBlue said it best, that Bama is Godzilla. Huge, badass, but not one for subtlety. UF is Predator. Roughly human sized, but you’ll have your spinal cord dangling from the ceiling before you know they were even there. Just ask Rich Brooks.

FYI: LSU fans can get the numbers of the UF players because they have numerous fans employed by cell phone companies with access to the number databases.
