Don't Worry About Rankings

It does not mean anything that Florida is 1 in the BCS or that Alabama is 1 in the AP poll or that Boise State is seen as a more likely BCS Finalist than the undefeated leaders of two BCS conferences. To worry about where we stand in rankings now is to cash your ticket at the Kentucky Derby after six furlongs.

It is an easy case to make that Alabama is the No. 1 team in the nation. Both Florida and Alabama have outstanding defenses, but UF has had back-to-back ugly wins. Bama does not put buckets of points on the board, but you have to appreciate what Mark Ingram (24 carries for 246 yards and a TD against South Carolina) and the Bama offense does. Meanwhile, Florida's offensive play caller has his head up his rear end, the quarterback does not go through his progressions, and the offensive line allowed the worst defense in the SEC to have six sacks. College football is famous for rewarding teams based on history and past play, but voters are quick to pull the trigger when it comes to in season rankings.

Ugh.

The current BCS rankings are not a projection for the future, but rather an assesment of the past all the way up to the present. And to worry about them is ridiculous, but enjoy the fact that we hold our destiny in our hands.

I really don't much worry about rankings till the week of the SEC Championship Game,

but I find it amusing that ESPN’s headline for the AP poll is “Alabama jumps Florida in top 25.” While technically true, it’s amusing to me when media outlets treat the one poll that has no impact on anything as “THE TOP 25.”

Yeah.

It’s simply because they’re hardwired to bash the BCS…

Why ESPN uses the AP

The AP is the only poll ESPN votes in. Also, ESPN used to use the Coaches’ Poll but dropped their use and sponsorship of it over issues of transparency. Yes Virginia, ESPN has journalistic integrity.

EXACTLY

its might be somthing that can help the Gators, relieve a little pressure from being number 1, and maybe put a little chip on thier shoulder.

i had this written in stone before the season started. florida vs usc......

for the national championship game in pasadena californiacationville. east vs west. pac-ten vs sec. 38 million plus people vs 21 million plus people population wise. will be the most watched ncaa college football game in the history of the ncaa. can tim tebow and urban meyer be considered the greatest college football player and coach of all-time. or will usc and it’s home field advantage be too much to overcome since florida has looked quite susceptible in it’s last two games. yes i do expect texas to lose to somebody. only time will tell. i’ll even predict the point spread. usc at +3 and 1/2.
